How to play
- Press Start. 15 countries are cut out of the world map, a new set every game, and you have 2 minutes 30 seconds.
- Type the name of a missing country, in any order. It fills in green as soon as it’s right.
- Name a country that’s still on the map and you’re told so.
- When time is up, the ones you missed turn red and are listed. Tap or hover over any country to see its name.
Which countries can go missing?
Any country big enough to see as a hole on a phone screen: nearly two thirds of the 197 in Countries of the World. The smallest countries and most islands stay on the map. Each hole keeps its border, so two missing neighbours stay apart.
Questions
Which names count?
The same names as Countries of the World, with their alternatives, such as Ivory Coast for Côte d’Ivoire. Capitals, accents and punctuation don’t matter.
Can I stop and come back later?
Yes. Pause, or close the page: the game is saved in this browser with the same holes, and comes back paused.
Do I get the same countries every game?
Each game is dealt at random, and the countries from your last three games are held back while there are enough others.
