How to play
- Press Start. You have 2 minutes for all 12.
- Type an answer, in any order. It counts as soon as it matches, with no need to press Enter, and fills in its row.
- Pause whenever you like; the list is hidden while the clock is stopped. If you leave mid-game, it waits, paused, until you come back.
- When the time is up, the ones you missed fill in, marked as missed.
About the zodiac
The zodiac divides the Sun’s path across the sky into twelve equal parts, each named after a constellation. The dates are the usual ones for the tropical zodiac, which starts at the March equinox. Over the centuries the stars have drifted against the calendar, so the constellations no longer line up with the dates of their signs. This quiz is about the names and dates only.
More facts (names some answers)
The signs are grouped into four elements: fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) and water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). Most are animals or people: a ram, a bull, twins, a crab, a lion, a maiden, a scorpion, an archer, a sea-goat, a water-bearer and two fish. Libra, the scales, is the only object.
What counts
The dates move by a day from year to year and between sources, so a birthday on the edge can fall either side. For the two signs whose constellations have longer Latin names, those count too.
Capitals, accents, spaces and punctuation don’t matter, but the spelling does.
The accepted alternative forms appear here when your quiz ends, so they don’t give any answers away.
