About Canada’s provinces and territories
Canada was founded in 1867 by the union of four provinces, and the others joined over the next eighty years. Provinces get their powers from the constitution; the three northern territories get theirs from Parliament. The territories cover about two fifths of the country but hold well under one percent of its people.
More about them (names some answers)
Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick founded Canada in 1867. Newfoundland and Labrador was the last province to join, in 1949. Nunavut, created in 1999 from the Northwest Territories, is the newest and the largest by area. Ontario is the most populous, Quebec the largest province, and Prince Edward Island the smallest.
What counts
The ten provinces are listed from west to east, then the three territories. Common short forms count. Cities aren’t answers.
